Tess Monteith
A picture speaks a thousand words so please take time to browse through my portfolio. To represent nature in a pure form in egg tempera , oil, guache, acrylic and water colour is the motivation. Drawing on a wide variety of influences from African wilderness, the teeming steamy markets of Hong Kong, Swiss and Scottish clarity of light and classical Italian, I respond to the diversity and vibrancy of the natural world and our landscapes. I have attended the Academie D'Arte in Florence and University of the South bank in London. Recently experimentation has been with Egg Tempera which involves painstakingly creating the ground with gesso and the medium by grinding egg yolk and pigment. Although requiring infinite patience, it allows the work to be finely detailed. Last autumn I returned to Florence to learn the dying art of Buon Fresco involving the application of earth pigments directly into lime mortar. As it cures, the pigment is sealed.
I have exhibited and sold my work in Europe, Zimbabwe and Hong Kong.
